ZED Baptist Community Services (Kellyville)

The very first Zero Emissions Development (ZED) aged care facility!

Vim’s latest project at Baptist Community Services (BCS) Kellyville is a state-of-the-art care development that serves as a showcase of environmental sustainability being built to world leading sustainability standards.

BCS Kellyville is a state-of-the art care development, which will include more than 200 independent living apartments, a residential aged care facility and a suite of other community care services, including respite for younger people living with disabilities.

The extensive energy and water saving initiatives planned for the development  are expected to save BCS as much as $500,000 a year in operating costs.

Sustainability features include:

  • Passive solar design and solar and heat exchange for hot water production
  • Natural daylighting and ventilation
  • Breezeways in apartment blocks
  • On site pedestrian precinct with hybrid/electric vehicles for site transportation
  • Micro turbine will provide heating, cooling and power generation
  • Hydronic heating in units
  • Solar external lighting
  • Double glazed windows
  • Use of low energy lighting, water efficient fixtures and low energy appliances
  • Monitoring and reporting of carbon footprint and energy consumption
  • Commitment to reduced construction waste
  • Site recycling and composting plan
  • Improved indoor air and environmental quality
  • Rouse Hill recycled water will be used where appropriate
  • Maintaining biodiversity of the site, including the Cumberland Woodland Forest
