John Brodie – Founder

Qualifications: BLN 12721c, Grad Cert (Project Management) UTS (2004), Masters Sustainable Design Science USYD, (ongoing) ABSA Assessor, Green Star Accredited Professional, CIBSE, ABSA, Member of DECCW Auditing Panel.

John Brodie is the founder and principal of VIM Sustainability Consulting and has been a construction project manager, design manager and builder for more than 30 years.

VIM Sustainability Consulting was launched in 2003 after John committed his passion for sustainability in design and construction to a business that actually creates value . John uses his vast research, advisory and consultative skills to help clients, architects and engineers  create more sustainable  medium sized commercial built environment  projects. John’s point of difference is his in-depth knowledge of the design and construct process and the interrelationship with practical sustainability solutions. As an advocate of sustainability in the built environment he has an in-depth understanding of sustainable building science and operational sustainability. His knowledge is also well sort after, resulting in Vim Sustainability  providing sustainability solutions and strategies to a broad range of clients and industries over the previous 7 years.

Dr. Phuoc Huynh – Senior Consultant in Natural Ventilation Design and Mechanical Engineering

Qualifications: B. Mechanical Engineering (Honours) University of Sydney (1976), Engineering Science in Mechanical Engineering (Masters), University of Sydney (1979), Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering (Doctor) University of Sydney (1982)

Dr. Phuoc Huynh is a senior lecturer in fluid mechanics, turbo machines, informatics and other mechanical engineering subjects at UTS. He works as part of the Vim Sustainability team as our senior consultant in Natural ventilation design and Mechanical Engineering.

He has worked at assorted Universities lecturing in a range of engineering disciplines and he has worked at the CSIRO Atmospheric Research Center as a research fellow.

Phuoc brings an extraordinary range of skills and expertise and technical ability to our team in the area of ventilation design, mechanical engineering and detailed project analysis.

Dr. Phuoc’s professional memberships are listed below:

Helanath Dissanayake – Financial Manager; Cost/Benefit Specialist

 

Qualifications: MBA, professional membership of CPA Australia.

Helanath is the Financial Director for Vim Sustainability. Helanath brings a wealth of experience into Vim, having managed, controlled and reported finances for national and international clients such as; AusAID, DFID, World Bank, ADB, EU and UN.

In Australia, Helanath has over 13 years experience as a hands-on Finance Manager with proven business acumen and a strongly demonstrated capacity to deliver sustainable growth and profitability. He has had internal stewardship of company obligations and reporting to ISO9001 standards, all compliance with internal and external audits, and is both knowledgeable and confident in reviewing and improving work processes to enhance efficiency.

His ability to understand cost/benefit analysis and ensure correct forecasting and budgeting through the project accounts are very relevant to any development. His presence brings a strong sense of financial auditing, cost versus benefit diagnostics and overall financial management to all of our projects.

James Idle MEng – Senior Design Engineer, Sustainability Engineer

Qualifications: Master of Mechanical Engineering with Automotive Design (Brunel University 2007)

James is a highly experienced natural ventilation and daylighting design specialist, having held the position as Senior Design Engineer with Monodraught Ltd in the United Kingdom. Within his time at Monodraught, James progressed and held the position as a Senior Design Engineer for 2 years and has contributed to many high profile, commercial projects across the UK, Australia and New Zealand.His portfolio of work includes natural ventilation designs for 5 Star Green Star Ormiston Road Senior College (New Zealand), PPP Super Schools (Australia), Falmer Academy (UK), DMC Building (London) and the East Midlands Airport.

Dan Li – Sustainability Engineer

Qualifications: M. Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering (Research) UNSW ’08, M. Engineering Science (Mechanical and Renewable) UNSW ’07, B. Mechanical Engineering (Building Services) UNSW ’05, Green Star Accredited Professional.

Dan is a highly qualified and passionate mechanical, building services and renewable energy engineer. She is a Green Star accredited professional and is committed to making a difference to our planet. Dan has a wealth of experience in renewable energy design, and in addition to her experience at VIM, she has worked as a research analyst at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), and has been part of the renewable energy and energy efficient services design team at UNSW.

Dan brings a great deal of technical skills and knowledge to the team at VIM, primarily in the field of cutting edge alternative energy efficient HVAC design, embodied energy analysis and renewable energy design.

Horatio Cai-Sustainability Engineer

Qualifications: M. Solar & Renewable Energy Engineering UNSW (2010), B. Honours Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering; Aerospace Major UNSW (2008).

Horatio is a highly qualified Sustainability Engineer for VIM Sustainability. He specialises in low energy building design and sustainable and renewable energy engineering. Horatio is also highly proficient in building intergraded photovoltaics, engineering software modelling, simulation and analysis.

His interests in sustainable design began when he began studying at the University of New South Wales under the Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate (APP) Scholarship program. Over the past 6 years, Horatio has used his expertise in sustainable renewable energy and low energy building design to collaborate with the Australian Research Council (ARC) and partake in the research department at the School of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering at the University of New South Wales. He has conducted research and published technical papers on wind energy, indoor climates, natural ventilation and building energy modelling.

Jack Pan – Finance and Office Administrator

Qualifications: B. Commerce Accounting 2009 (Macquarie University), Diploma of Commerce 2007 (Sydney Institute of Business and Technology)

Jack is a valued member of the VIM team, providing day to day assistance in areas relevant to accounts and finances. For the past three years, Jack has worked as an accounts clerk for companies such as United Advertising Group & Eddy Wise Pty Ltd.

Jack has high attention to detail, and ensures the smooth operation of the office and daily tasks.
